Prompt: fabricate a device to study lighting. Our interest in lighting effects over material textures led us to design a light box with interchangeable lighting apertures and material texture slides. Using a number of varied techniques we created material sample slides, which demonstrated a range of surface properties. Surface properties included changes in depth, grain, light reflection, light absorption, shadows, and texture. Our lighting slides tested overhead openings which shifted in degrees of distance from closest to furthest away from the material slide.
